Crab Cookout

What does an American crab do on July 4? What does an American crab do on July 4? He has a cookout, of course! This adorable crab is enjoying a dog while grilling a burger and hot dog. If he's not careful, the waves washing up on the beach may carry off his plate of food.

The base for this piece is a 2" square ceramic tile. Finished size is 2.25" x 2". I sculpted the crab, food, plate, grill, sand and water from colored polymer clay. The spatula handle and head are also polymer clay, with metal wire for the stem. The lid on the grill opens to show the burger and dog still being cooked. I used a touch of pastels and acrylic to enhance the food and give it a browned/grilled look.
