Book Arts
I have always loved books since I was quite young. Most of my extracurricular time was spent in the public or school library, or curled up in a chair, on the couch, in my bed, or on the floor reading. I never lost my passion for reading or my love of libraries, bookstores, or any place with books in number.
I was thumbing through a polymer clay instruction book one afternoon and found a tutorial for making a small book cover. I don't even remember how the pages were bound--something simple that didn't inlcude any stitching. I realized at that point how easily I could combine my love of polymer clay with books to make some fabulous hand-bound books. But I didn't realize just how addictive making books would become until a friend offered to teach me how to bind a book with the Coptic stitch. That was it for me--the opportunity to combine polymer clay covers with luscious handmade papers and hand-stitching to make a one-of-a-kind journal, photo album or art book. I've been making a variety of books since then; not as many as I'd like, if I had all the time in the world, but fortunately I've got plenty of ideas to keep me going for awhile.
